The weather has become a bit cooler at our cottages (click here) and those horrible thunderstorms seem to have stopped. Idiot brother was a total basket case during the storms. In the end we had to put him in the downstairs toilet where he couldn’t hear or see anything. OK I was a bit scared but I was more concerned that mistress looked a bit worried so I followed her around everywhere. Just in case. Of course I wasn’t too happy when all the lights went out but once the gas lamps and everything were switched on it wasn’t too bad. I do wish masters computers wouldn’t beep all the time when they lose power. That is all a bit disconcerting. Anyhow that is all behind us now and we can enjoy the rest of the summer.

We got some free tickets to the Bakewell show so it was decided we would all go (even if master did do a lot of grumbling). I remembered last time that we got some free samples from a few of the dog stands so it seemed a good idea to me. We first had to  go to the WI tent where mistress had helped with some sort of competition entry. She was not very happy as they had come second to bottom. I volunteered to give my opinion on the food but no one took me up on the offer. Next we tried to find master some new boots but being a Yorkshireman it is hard to find anything for him at the right price. We just hung around waiting and twiddling our paws. We did stop at a few pet stalls but no one offered me anything. Mistress bought idiot brother a new lead (he has broken his other one). On the way out master spotted some free treats on a pet store and gave us one each. Fatal and worrying. The sales person explained how their food had so much more ‘nutritional value’ than the food we have that we could be given even less that we already get. What! I am starved to death already and have to go scavenging as it is. If I get much less I will never survive. Luckily when she told him how much it cost I knew we would be OK. There is no way master would pay that much.

We have had lots of friends to stay the last few weeks but this week it all seems a bit quiet on the dog front. That is bad as on average dog people understand how poorly I am fed and give me the odd treat. Or I can nip in to the cottage when no one is looking to check for any leftover dog food. It sometimes works.
