Pet friendly holiday - Smudge in snow

Me in the Snow

I think I am getting the hang of this snow thing.  The day started with a visit to mistress in bed.  She seems to have a cold so we went to say good morning.  Hopefully she is up in time for dinner.  Master is always a bit mean with dinner. Master then took us out in the snow.  I checked that the chicken was OK before heading out into the field for a run in the snow.  The sun was out and apart from the cold wind it was fine.  Just before we came in we met up with some friends from one of the peak district cottages who were just going out for a long walk.  They are proper Huskies.  They seemed to love the snow and were raring to be off.

The morning passed with us outside with the master who was clearing the drive.  Idiot brother was jumping all over trying to catch the snow – Again!  As the sun was out it was quite pleasant.  We came in for lunch, to check if there was any tit bits left over.  Mistress was up and about so that it is looking good for Dinner.  I had a lazy afternoon until master‘s Discovery got stuck in the courtyard and then we all had a laugh as he had be pulled out by the farmer.

I got the shock of my life just before we came in for the afternoon.  I was minding my own business. Checking on idiot brother when all of a sudden I realised I was virtually surrounded by the sheep who were only about 1 foot away. They had snook up on me when I wasn’t looking.  Don’t they know I am a sheep dog and they shouldn’t mess with me.  Anyway I gave them a bark and they all ran off but all the same it was all a bit undignified.  Idiot brother thought it was a great laugh.

More Snow – Blue

Another great day.  Its been snowing most of the day at our peak district cottages and we have been allowed out to play in it. Smudge was yet again a bit of a wimp. He thought it was a bit wet and cold – what a wimp.  I think master said about 3 inches had come down.  Most of our friends, from the new year, have gone now.  It was a shame to loose them, as I always like showing other dogs where all the best spots to hide are and how to round up the chicken without the master and mistress noticing.

Me Playing in the snow

New years day was a bit of a damp squid.  My master spent the day in his office.  How are we supposed to ‘bond’ if we can’t go out and play. I don’t know.  Smudge was no fun either as he just went to sleep by the fire.

Today was a lot better. People coming and going and my favourite cleaner arrived. She always has nice white tops on so it is great fun seeing her face when I jump up to say hello. I don’t think she fully appreciates the welcome I give her. The Scottish expletives can be quite interesting.  The snow was fun although our master didn’t seem to want to play.  Something about him being busy with the cottages – he needs to chill out a bit.

New years eve I did my hero bit.  I heard a loud bang just after midnight. I was so concerned for my mistress and master that I got out of our room and found my way to thier bedroom to make sure they were OK.  All I got was yelled at and sent back to bed.  Now that is gratitude for you. Oh and I was a bit ill on New years eve.  Not sure why, but it could have been the dead Hare I found and thought was too good to waste.

New year – Smudge

New Year was a bit boring. Master and Mistress seemed to be working all day and it was cold out so I decided to chill out by the fire.  We lost two of our friends  from the peak district cottages today/yesterday.  It was time for their master to go home. The friend in Lathkill cottage had been great fun as he was allowed to play with us in the snow. The friend in Magpie cottage was an Alaskan Husky so he was used to these kind of arctic conditions.

Me Checking the weather

Idiot brother  found a dead Hare in one of the fields.  I assume it was dead when he found it! He usually can’t catch a cold let alone a Hare. Being stupid he decided to eat it (its a good job our master didn’t catch him). Well the obvious happened: he was sick all afternoon.  Great – that meant we were on pasta for dinner (the mistress always gives us pasta when we are not feeling too well).  Maybe if I  I chew off one of his legs it will stop him being so stupid.  Mind you I would probably get into all sorts of trouble with the master.  He hates having to take us to the vet.

At bedtime, idiot brother excelled again.  Just after bedtime there was a small bang (I assume a firework).  Idiot Brother went loopy and tried to get out of our room.  By some miracle he managed to release the latch which let him into the kitchen and the rest of the house.  There was then a lot of yelling as our master and mistress found him in their bedroom. I don’t know how he managed to find it, as we have never been allowed in there).  Anyhow it wasn’t all bad, we were put back to bed with another treat.
